Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping industries and societies worldwide, creating immense opportunities for those with the right skills. Recognizing the transformative potential of AI, Microsoft has taken significant strides to empower Indians from all walks of life with AI skills through its ambitious initiatives.
Under its ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA program, Microsoft aims to train 10 million Indians in AI skills over the next five years. This initiative builds on its previous success of skilling 2.4 million Indians, including civil servants, college students, and individuals with disabilities. Launched by Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, the program reflects the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, enhancing employability, and creating an inclusive future for every Indian.
Neha Jain, Special Secretary, IT and Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, likened AI to humanity’s discovery of fire, emphasizing the importance of using it wisely for societal benefit. “Once upon a time, humans discovered fire and feared it. But then we learned to channel it and put it to good use. Similarly, AI needs to be used wisely for the benefit of humanity rather than letting us be devoured by it,” Jain said.

Microsoft’s efforts extend across diverse population segments, equipping people with practical tools and skills to integrate AI into their daily lives. In Uttar Pradesh, Raghavendra Pratap Singh, a review officer, attended a one-day digital skills course where he learned to use AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and Copilot for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. These tools have since transformed how he works, reducing the time needed for drafting documents and enhancing accuracy. For instance, AI helps him translate court orders from English to Hindi, streamlining communication with local officers.
Similarly, Microsoft’s TechSaksham initiative, developed in partnership with SAP, makes AI accessible to students across India. This program has opened doors to new career possibilities for students like Jui Shrikant Bidaye, a 21-year-old from Pune. After participating in the initiative, she is now interning to develop a secure file storage application using AI tools, hoping to secure a permanent job after graduation.
These efforts are part of Microsoft’s mission to make India an AI-first nation. During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadella reiterated the tech giant’s commitment to expanding its investments in India to ensure that every Indian benefits from the AI platform shift.

Microsoft’s tools, such as Copilot, TechSaksham, and Seeing AI, are already transforming lives by fostering digital literacy and enabling people to achieve more in less time. From improving efficiency in government offices to empowering rural students with advanced technical knowledge, the impact of these programs is far-reaching.
As AI becomes integral to workplaces and daily life, the risk of being left behind grows for those lacking such skills. Microsoft’s initiatives aim to bridge this gap, ensuring that individuals across India, regardless of their backgrounds, have the tools and knowledge to thrive in an AI-driven future.
By training millions in AI, Microsoft is enhancing productivity and employability and fostering a more inclusive and equitable digital landscape in India. This vision aligns with a future where AI is not just a tool for a privileged few but a transformative force that empowers communities, drives innovation, and creates opportunities for all.
